Ram Upgrade Problem

Basically my problem is this: I've recently purchased 2x1GB sticks of RAM to beef up my lagging machine (I previously had around 700MB). Upon swapping the old stuff for the new stuff, Windows refused to boot. I got as far as the boot select screen and no matter what I chose, safe mode, last known config, it simply restarted and ended up back on the boot screen.
My motherboard is an ASUS K8V-MX, and the RAM I'm using is Kingston DDR RAM -KVR400X64C3A/1G (recommended in the motherboard manual)....
